I crashed.
And then I discovered
something truly valuable - The Inner OS.
A crash, a recovery, discovering mindfulness, founding a startup, an exit, INSEAD, IDEO, Google born Search Inside Yourself, neuroscience - all of these eventually became the foundation for the Inner OS framework.
Two books, a global teaching practice, and the opportunity to impact many lives followed.
THE STORY
"By every external measure, I was succeeding.
Inside, I was running on empty."
My first startup was on hyper-growth. Every metric pointed upward. By all external standards, I was succeeding. But one day I woke up feeling completely empty inside. Not burnt out in the ordinary sense but something deeper. The gap between what I was building and what I felt inside had become impossible to ignore.
What followed was the beginning of a very different kind of education. I exited the company. I went to INSEAD - not to get smarter about business, but because I needed space to think. What I found there, and in the years that followed, was a thread that would eventually lead to everything else.
THE SEARCH
IDEO came next - the iconic Silicon Valley design and innovation firm, where I was a Managing Director. Working alongside some of the most talented people I have ever met, I noticed the same pattern again and again. Capable, intelligent, motivated people underperforming in the moments that mattered most. Not from lack of skill. From something happening inside that their training had never addressed.
In parallel, I was deepening my practice in the contemplative traditions. I spent time at Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh's Plum Village monastery in Thailand, where I was encouraged by the community to teach. I became a teacher of the Search Inside Yourself program - the mindfulness and emotional intelligence curriculum born at Google. I studied the Stoics, the Zen teachers, the neuroscientists. What I found in all of them was not mysticism. It was precision.

After an accident earlier in my life, doctors had told me I would never ride a motorcycle again. Years later, when Harley Davidson launched in India, I was one of the first to ride — receiving a bike marked "first to ride." People hear that as a story about grit. It is not. It is a story about learning to work with the inner system rather than simply demanding more of it.
THE SYNTHESIS
I founded Llama to bring this framework to organisations at scale. I wrote The Monk in the Corner Office - published by Penguin Random House India in 2025 - to give leaders a story through which to encounter these ideas. And I am now completing The Inner OS: A Manual for Peak Human Performance in the Age of AI, the book that gives the entire framework its complete architecture.
The pattern I keep encountering, across five continents and hundreds of rooms, is always the same. People are capable of operating extraordinary machines. But when it comes to operating their own inner system, they are undertrained. And the gap between the two is where most of the suffering, and most of the underperformance, quietly lives.
